Civil Diplomacy

‘Civil diplomacy’ is a diplomacy that aims to foster cooperation, dialogue and understanding through an active role in national and international affairs by individuals, civil society organisations, academic institutions, private sector representatives and other communities, defined as non-state actors. Unlike traditional state diplomacy, civil diplomacy is conducted independently of official government actors and involves the direct participation of communities.

In a globalised world, civil diplomacy goes beyond inter-state relations and enables individuals and societies to contribute to diplomacy. This approach allows for more inclusive, creative and sustainable ways of solving global problems. It also facilitates understanding and co-operation among peoples by overcoming formal diplomatic barriers between states.

Civil diplomacy is becoming more widespread around the world. For this reason, the Union of Diplomats (BDU), with its Civil Diplomacy Academy, has developed a training programme content under the title of both Civil Diplomat and Local Government Diplomat.

The Civil Diplomacy Academy will be conducted online within the framework of our “Cooperation Protocol” with different universities and NGOs at the international level. The language of instruction is Turkish and English.
