Press Statement by Musa Karademir Ahead of the NATO Ankara Summit

‘NATO’S FUTURE WILL BE SHAPED MORE BY THE STRENGTH OF STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS THAN BY SECURITY’

Musa Karademir, Founding President of the BDU International Diplomats Union and the CDBA Civil Diplomacy and Business World Association, shared his assessments ahead of the NATO Ankara Summit.

In his assessment ahead of the NATO Summit to be held in Ankara on 7–8 July, Musa Karademir, President of BDU and CDBA, noted that the global security architecture is undergoing a historic transformation, stating that NATO’s future will be shaped not only by military capabilities but also by diplomacy, technology, economic resilience and international cooperation.

Karademir emphasised that the Ankara Summit represents a significant turning point not only for NATO but also in terms of Turkey’s role in international security diplomacy.

“The Ankara Summit is a strategic gathering that will determine not only NATO’s future but also that of the global security architecture.”

Noting that Turkey is one of NATO’s indispensable members thanks to its geopolitical position, defence industry capacity and the constructive role it plays in regional crises, Karademir said that the alliance must adopt a multidimensional approach to security in the new era.

Turkey Holds a Key Position in NATO’s Security Architecture
“With its strategic location, robust defence infrastructure, experience in counter-terrorism and its multidimensional approach to diplomacy, Turkey is one of the cornerstones of NATO’s security architecture. The Ankara Summit will contribute to further strengthening this strategic role at the international level.”

The Security of the Future Will Be Built on Technology
Rapid developments in artificial intelligence, cyber security, digital transformation and advanced defence technologies are reshaping the future of security. The next-generation security architecture will be built not only on military strength but also on technology, innovation, data security and strategic international cooperation; countries that strengthen investment and cooperation in these areas will assume a more effective and decisive role in global security.

The Ankara Summit: A Historic Opportunity for Global Peace
The NATO Summit to be held in Ankara is not merely a meeting to assess the security policies of allied nations; it is also a historic opportunity to strengthen global peace, regional stability and international cooperation. It is expected that the strategic decisions taken at the Summit will make significant contributions to the construction of a safer, more stable and sustainable international order by fostering dialogue, a shared understanding of security, the peaceful resolution of crises and the development of multilateral diplomacy.

The Contribution of Civil Diplomacy to Peace is Indisputable
Civil diplomacy is one of the most effective tools for peace, strengthening dialogue, mutual understanding and cooperation by establishing trust-based relationships between states, institutions, the business community, academia and societies. Complementing official diplomacy, this approach plays a strategic role in reducing prejudices, generating common solutions and supporting lasting peace; it makes significant contributions to ensuring global stability and developing sustainable international relations.

The European Union Should Develop Its Perspective on Full EU Membership Through a ‘Common Security and Defence-Centric’ Approach
The security, energy, migration and geopolitical challenges facing Europe necessitate that the European Union reassess its enlargement policy from a common security and defence perspective. Turkey, as a key NATO ally and a strategic country contributing to Europe’s security, must be regarded not merely as a candidate country but as an indispensable partner in the common security architecture; Turkey’s full EU membership must be finalised in line with mutual trust, shared interests and a long-term strategic vision.

NATO Member States Must Approach Turkey in the Spirit of True Alliance
The principles of solidarity, mutual trust and shared responsibility, which form the foundation of NATO, must be applied equally to all allies. Taking Turkey’s legitimate security concerns into account, avoiding double standards within the Alliance, and conducting relations on the basis of transparency, sincerity and trust in line with shared strategic interests will further strengthen NATO’s unity and effectiveness.
