BDU’s Statement on the May 14 Elections

THE BDU INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BUSINESSMEN AND DIPLOMATS ISSUED A STATEMENT REGARDING THE PRESIDENTIAL AND NATIONAL ELECTIONS TO BE HELD ON MAY 14:

THESE ELECTIONS WILL DETERMINE THE CADRES THAT WILL FORM THE NEXT CENTURY OF OUR COUNTRY.

Our country goes to the polls on May 14. In this election, on the one hand, the President, on the other hand, the 28. Term MPs will be elected.

100th Anniversary of our Republic These elections will also be an electoral atmosphere that will shape the next century of the Republic of Turkey. The heart would wish that we could live both the elections and our Republic in a festive atmosphere. But the catastrophic earthquake of the century that occurred on February 6 made our suffering indescribable.

Every citizen who has the right to vote on May 14 must go to the polls. Apart from being a civic duty, this is to share the common destiny together in determining the future of one’s country. The choices we will make on May 14 will also be instrumental in bringing the cadres who will lay the foundation of the next century to work.

In addition to the severe political, social and economic problems in our country, the separations/polarizations caused by divisions should not overshadow the election atmosphere. Election security, vote security, ballot box security should be in accordance with the spirit of the election in every aspect.

All the political parties participating in the election will soon go down to the fields and explain themselves to the people. The most important thing we need in this process is for every political party and parliamentary candidate to whom our Constitution and laws pass should be able to express themselves freely.

However, while talking in the squares, statements or discourses about the survival of our country, democracy, secularism, social law state, ethnic structure, religious beliefs and fundamental rights freedoms should definitely be avoided. The state and founding philosophy of the Republic of Turkey is the “common value” of all of us.

We are in the digital age. We need change, transformation, reason, science, the rule of law, fundamental rights and freedoms, economic growth, development, high-tech production, social justice, income equality, coexistence, tolerance, solidarity, appreciation of what is good and what is done, a new social contract (constitution), merit, safe and livable cities, protection of consumer rights.

In order to build the present and future of our country on the threshold of the new century, we once again invite all our citizens to vote.
